My poem is a parody of this poem:

Song to Celia" by Ben Jonson, Renaissance poet and playwright

Drink to me only with thine eyes,

nd I will pledge with mine;

Or leave a kiss but in the cup,

And I’ll not look for wine.

The thirst that from the soul doth rise

Doth ask a drink divine;

But might I of Jove’s nectar sup,

I would not change for thine.

I sent thee late a rosy wreath,

Not so much honouring thee

As giving it a hope, that there

It could not withered be.

But thou thereon didst only breathe,

And sent’st it back to me;

Since when it grows, and smells, I swear,

Not of itself, but thee.

Drink with me coffee, black and strong. I promise nevermore To drink with meals a fifth of wine Then stagger ‘cross the floor. My need for thee doth rival thirst For booze; you're both divine! Jove's nectar's only in a book, But I found thee online. I sent thee late a rose-red couch Not just to honor thee. I hoped to lounge upon it oft Whil'st thou served meals for free. But thou thereon did'st only sneer. And sent'st it back to me. You said, "This thing is old and smells, I swear, of booze and thee!" I love Ben Johnson's poem and this is a perfect parody! My favorite line 'whilst thou served meals for free' - I predict this will be a top winner!
