...and the wind..! was, electric. there was water..! there was sun..! ...it was all renewable... the energy, powered, sustained, life..! Fossil liquids burning emitting toxins that was OUR mistake. From the day a human kick started wound up the first combustible engine..! The first spill in any ocean should have been our clue. It was what cigarettes was to lungs- -what alcohol was to brain cells. It was a human error, a human error so huge that like a mythical dragon assumed a life of its own consumed the will the power the limited minds of limited men. Unlike the giant beast veiled as nuclear power with its unlimited potential that would have wooed the minds of the greatest among us, oil from its inception had the smell of destruction on its breath. It would in its own way fulfil the prophecy the world would end with a whimper not a bang. We saw its horns its bright red skin its pitch fork but we signed up willingly ...and from that day on our eternal souls were damned.

I was actually more replying a comment on here, so heres an interesting tidbit, the ONLY country to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 1994/95 levels as of 2014, has been the USA. The ones who didn't sign the Kyoto agreement Interesting!!!

Try not using things like ummmm your computer, your car, and oh no heating the house anymore either, we are no where close to doomed, It might be an idea to also run around nude, alot of what we wear uses oil. Like all of nature we use it to be more productive, imagine the advances not made and the deaths caused without it. Great fiction though!

I respect your opinion Arthur. There was no intention to offend. This piece is definetely dramatic and purposely over the top. Thank you for adding to the conversation. I can not argue any point you have made. This is a limited singular outlook that minimises the complexities of this topic. You have my heartfelt appologies.

The visual of the Exon Valdese in the desert added to the Apocolyptic feel of this piece. Fantastic write Maurice.

I agree with Verlena down here . This is VERY powerful. WE are indeed doomed. what amazes me is how certain people in my own country take this all so very lightly. I really pity the future generations for what they will have to breathe in just 20 years from now. Maybe less. One thing really stunning in your poem likening this to a devil or dragon with the smell of destruction on its breath. My favorite part.

You've summed this up quite nicely, Maurice. We don't seem to understand what damage we're doing until it's too late. Poetry is a true teacher, enlightening all who read her lessons. Thanks for this one; it's a favorite now.

WOW. that was intense. Such a truth in your words and the picture that you have put along with it, digs the soul deeper into the saddness knowing that this beast was created by race, be to better and stronger we have become weaker. Powerful poem my friend!
