Dreams Never Lost
I had many dreams
When life was so full, almost giddily exuberant,
Everything felt beautiful -
Music, laughter, friends,
I had it all.
They were all about fame and pride and success -
dreams of being a singer, a writer,
being rich, being admired!
Everything feels so superfluous,
so non-essential now!
What makes me content -
a yellow bird's song, a creeping vine on my fence.
An almost forgotten music from the past makes me cry,
I can listen to that music all day, every day.
I still keep dreaming,
Dreams painted with a deft hand on the shores of my heart,
Only they are not so visible any more!
Laughter is subdued, Music low,
Conversations quiet, Lights mellow,
What is important are precious memories of togetherness,
I keep dreaming those dreams!
