The young and naive question their fate;
expecting love, unprepared for hate.
Armored with lies, defending the truth;
a warrior lives inside each youth.
Scars and tattoos display anger's mark;
insipid badges, oft crude and stark.
When pain morphs into panic and fear,
hope vanishes, replaced by a tear.
Memories store what feelings impart;
deep within a troubled teenage heart.
And ramshackle looks drain one of pride;
frightened inside, unable to hide.
Bodies of friends ingested by night;
traced in chalk by a city of light.
Living on the streets, your dreams erode;
for nightmares travel that lonely road.
