Dragonfly

Dragonfly

That chosen morning by the lake’s shaded edge
A new formed dragonfly from developed nymph
Emerged in ‘clear plates of sapphire mail’.*
Primordial blood pumped into ancient veins,
Archaic wings in the day’s full warmth unveil.

Still, above the tall green spiked leaves,
Precision predator in sudden flight.
In sun warmed air; above still water’s edge,
The iridescent dragonfly darts and turns
By nettles, water violet, rush and sedge
