Dr. D. (Ole Farmer Dewars)
Something sublime about you
I cannot shake it from my mind
Something that never came to view
Life is short and dreamers blind
Time lapsed into a itch of memory
When school days were done
Love baited you for gallant history
Beauty is fragile in the sun.
What happened at the wailing wall
What turmoil or wisdom deep
Rose like a geyser to turbulent fall
On the sensitivity shook from sleep?
You came to our tropic shores again
Transformed, removed, distant
From all reality - untouched by pain
Or thoughts that made men hesitant
I saw you once from a passing car
Too fast before I knew to stop
Did not seem you were gone too far
Nor heard Horus dark wings drop
They said one day you walked from the pier
And never tried to swim away, silence
Marked where the wide eddy appeared
And I still sift for love the muted evidence.
