Downright Insulting

Fifty per cent
 of Harvard grads
  opt for finance or consulting

The percentage who go into teaching?
 That figure's downright discomfiting
  ~ disgraceful, insulting.

The best and brightest manipulate money
~ Future generations won't find that so funny

True story. Sad ethos. Well written. Many wishes, Kai (impoverished doctor and unemployed poet)

This is something new for me as in Pakistan(where I live) teachers are truly appreciated for their contribution and teaching in low wages as mostly schools don't give much to teachers, it was a really nice poem with an eye opening message, good luck

Well, welcome to the US of A, where teachers, except full professors at universities, make less than garbage collectors in many locales ... Little wonder that our kids do so poorly in math and science in so many places ... Tragic, really. Thanks for commenting, Faraz Best wishes, Gershon

Me sit down at King Arthur's board. Lop off side of venison. Devour all in 2 minutes. What for dessert? Grrrr. Go slice up next victim. Bwa-ha-ha! ~ 'g'

Now that is an interesting fact Gershon, mmm they followed the big money trail I think . A worrying trend though. Tom.

You're right. It is a worrying trend, esp. since there have been periods where idealistic students from the Ivies went into teaching, social work, and other helping professions. Right now? -- Those days B gone!

Hey, thanks, L.M! As for fierce, I am a 'wolf,' you know ... And anyway, why leave anything on the 'field of play,' so to speak? Might as well give it all you've got ... Thank you for your visit and comment! Much appreciated. Best wishes, Gershon

I agree Gershon. My son and daughter both teach. I just wrote a poem about how unfairly teachers are considered. : )

So you really know then, Connie … Other countries value their teachers much more than we do … and in the long run, the overall decline (except for your kids!) in teacher quality will impact America as a whole---if it hasn't already! Thank you for your visit, Conne! :) gw
