Don'T Let Your Fingers Do the Talking

once upon a time couple’s lovingly held hands... now they clutch mobiles! they've no need to speak they are communicating... using fingertips how can children learn if they copy their parents from an early age face to face talking sadly a dying art form... some call it progress! Based on recent observation of people in restaurants where many were sitting at tables not talking with the others but just glued to their mobile phone screens 11/10/18

I nearly got knocked over on the pavement yesterday by a moron who was hell bent on texting rather than focusing on walking in a straight line:-( hugs Jan xx

Perish the thought Christopher, how about sitting having a meal with no electronic devices in sight lol - now that would be a novel thing in some households these days! hugs Jan xx

So very true!! Conversation is indeed a lost art when people barely interact IRL (In Real Life). Nicely done! Regards, John.

Unfortunately progress as many side effects, and the one you refer to is undoubtedly one of them! There was a time when the family sat together at table and talked...now they eat in silence!! Hugs // paul

Not only is it infuriating to me but it's rude. I was at the eye doctor the other day sitting in a corner (waiting room!) when this chatty lady picked her mobile and began talking loudly. It was as if I wasn't there! It's not possible these days to go anywhere without hearing bings, buzzes, or ziggs! Okay, I've had my say. BTW, cauliflower soup is easy to make and delicious, at least the way I make it. Thanks for the stop by, Jan. / M

I only have my phone for emergencies it texts and makes calls. I find people so obsessed with them they would knock you over in the street rather than look up:-( hugs Jan xx

It is a sad time when most of the younger generation communicate via texting instead of great face to face conversation, nicely done!

It is so sad to see Tania and when families sit in a restaurant and all are are on their phones it made me wonder what the future holds:-( Hugs Jan xx

Ah, yes. PROGRESS! … When robots replace people, do you think that they'll talk to each other or just text each other? I'll bet they opt for talking … So, that'll be actual progress. LOL. ~ gw

Dear Jan: So true. Remember the 3 monkeys who see, speak, and hear no evil. Today, there's a 4th monkey who only looks at the cellphone device! Somehow, we have become more narcissitic! All the best then, Leon.

About 25% of people we observed were glued to their phones, so sad to see the way society is going:-( Hugs Jan xx

Sometimes when I'm out to dinner with my hubby, I have to ask him to put away the phone and pay attention to me! I do think kids are not learning how to think or talk without electronics, which is a shame-

Good for you Michelle! I hope he takes notice of your request... You could always text him a reminder lol. At the school I worked at they provided smart phones for all the first year students to use in the classroom to access the internet. It was a pilot scheme... this year they have banned mobiles in the classrooms for the highschool students apart from the 6th formers who are aged between 16- 18. I wish they would have a blanket ban, we managed fine with having messages to from parents via the school office and we have survived our education without this technology! Hugs jan xx

Excellent idea, we also went to one restaurant where there was a basket on the table for phones which was encouraging people to talk not use their phones:-) Hugs Jan xx

A good lesson to be learned by your post, Jan. It seems the more we depend on technology, the less we depend on each other. Danger lies in texting while driving...as did the jerk who rammed into the back of my daughter while she was stopped at a red traffic light.

You are so right Lin, so sorry about your daughter... I hope they prosecute the moron who went into the back of her car, there is no excuse to be using a phone whilst you are at the wheel. Hugs Jan xx

How true that is Jan, nothing infuriates me more than someone I'm talking too stops and says I'll just get this, hang on a minute I'm talking grrrrr.

I rarely carry a mobile only when I'm out alone in case of emergencies and it's only basic text and call, it's so sad to ser people who seem incapable of existing without a phone being in their hand. I hate having to dodge them in the street glued to their phone and oblivious to those around them. Next time you eat out just look to see how many are on their phones... today we saw a table of 6 adults and children all tapping away :-( Hugs Jan xx
