Don’t hurt me with your words
Don’t hurt me
Lies, innuendos, sarcasm, put-downs
Don’t hurt me

Don’t hurt me with your eyes
Don’t hurt me
Disdain, lust, skepticism, disrespect
Don’t hurt me

Don’t hurt me with your hands
Don’t hurt me
Pinching, pulling, scratching, slapping
Don’t hurt me

Don’t hurt me with your silence
Don’t hurt me
Indifference, abhorrence, neglect, control
Don’t hurt me

Don’t hurt me with your punishment
Don’t hurt me
NO touch, NO kiss, NO hug, NO SEX
Don’t hurt me

Don’t hurt me….

I agree with Richard ...I love repeating lines for effect..You did a marvelous job with a tough subject Eileen.

Yes...it is a tough subject, Tim. I originally was just thinking of someone hurting someone by what they say...write...and then the poem just took on its own life. I guess at some point or another, we have all been abusive...and need forgiveness and grace. Hugs

Personally I think the repetition is very effective. I found one of the comments very interesting, the fact that people equate abuse with love. The abuser tells the abused that they love them but they don't truly know what it means to love another.

everyone feels the pain..in different ways..from different hands. too sad, many people, particularly women suffer from this around the globe... You have said it very well dear ,Eileen..but can i disagree to one thing.???... I hope SEX wont be a way of punishment!! ..lol... Have a nice day my dear!!! ^__^

HA HA HA HA!!! I meant that NO SEX is punishment, right? People use sex as a weapon....Like that old song goes....They use sex to reward...they use lack of sex to punish....and then.....there is those who play act punishment in sex...but we won't go there! An abominable crime is every form of hurt inflicted on any person! People should be loved and cared for, not to put through mental or physical anguish for this kind of behavior unholy is! Hope no one is hurting you!

Yes, my dear poet....Yes. We don't live in an ideal world, unfortunately. Unholy...truly! I'm well. Be not worried. I was originally thinking of the pain inflicted by words, and they poem just went on from there. I hope all is well with you. I've missed you.

How true is your statement, Sunshine! Yes...unfortunately, the words of the song ring true...WHY DO WE ALWAYS HURT THE ONES WE LOVE? I don't know....Life is crazy. Thanks for the visit...the love...the hugs...and the SUNSHINE on this rainy day in Beirut!
