Don't cry Afrfica
Don’t cry for me
Africa
I’m far
But I’m tied to your sky
I hear your voices
People of Africa
Every word like a drum in my mind
I hear your cries
People of Africa
In the wind
In the dust
In the rain
I see the pain in your eyes
People of Africa
I carry your joy and your shame
Don’t cry for me
Africa
You live in every breath I take
From the red earth on my hands
To the songs my mother made
Don’t cry for me
Africa
I will never leave you behind
You’re the fire in my blood
You’re the dream that shapes my life
I remember small feet on a hot dirt road
Laughing loud
Chasing old worn tires
Grandma’s hands on my shaking shoulders
Telling me
“Child
Your heart is ours”
I see your strength
People of Africa
In the fields
In the streets
In the night
I feel your hope
People of Africa
Rising up
Rising up
Into light
If I cross every border
If I sail every sea
Your rivers still run in me
Your stories still speak through me
So when the world feels heavy
And the days are long and dry
I close my eyes
Call your name
And I hear you reply
