Notes About The Poem

CRYING IN THE RAIN

Don't Come Around

don't do me a favor
by reading my rhyme
don't be insincere
when you write me a line

don't visit my writing
though I ask you why
"To repay a visit!"
now, don't make me cry!

don't come around, darling
just out of respect
I'd rather prefer
your honest neglect

don't give me a tribute
if poem's not fine
you better not say,
"Oh dear, it's divine!"

don't let your poor pity
be the reason you greet
I'd rather not see you
at our poetry meet

don't be a sweet liar
and spin a false tale
don't make me feel special
sweet talk won't prevail

don't treat me, dear poet
like all of the rest
when clearly you know
I think you're the best!

Disclaimer: This poem is a bit of exaggerated fun. The heart of the message is to be sincere in comments. To be visited because of quality of writing is so much more fulfilling that to know the visit is a return favour. I myself am guilty of that; however, if I truly feel there's nothing I can give a genuine compliment on...I read another poem by the same author hoping for understanding and opportunity for genuine praise.

I myself could make this claim. But I can say Not guilty in your case. and this poem shows why. At times I just want to read poetry. Not someones journal or trash. It's a art!!! It's suppose to be artistic.

I think this is something that all of us here can relate. You know me ... I have a optimism and encouragement angle that my personality, generally steers towards. But my utmost goal is to be honest and show (to the best of my ability) that I read it and understood it and am not just laying out cookie cutter responses. Time doesn't allow to read as much as I would like (well .. it DIDN'T anyways .... not it certainly does! hahaha).

You made me smile sweet Eileen - I agree with your poets notes and do the same if I don't 'get' a poem I read the comments made by others and if I still have no clue I move on to another poem of theirs. As for sincerity ...I had one sponsor praise my poem to the highest degree before the contest even closed ... then gave it an n/a lol!!:-) keep smiling my friend:-) hugs Jan xx

Hi, Jan. Good to have you visit. I must confess...I sometimes read comments of others to see if anyone else got a poem I'm struggling with. However, I'd rather read another I like. Time is always an issue. Ouch! Yes. Something similar happened to me. That's painful. Hugs, dear

Thank you for your kind comment. I start classes again tomorrow. Though it's via the net... it still takes a lot out of me. I won't be as present here the next few weeks. I will pass by to visit, though. Hugs

I agree with your words Eileen. If I don't think a poem is special I won't lie, I will just move on to read one I do think is special. I do what I can do to comment and don't always have the time. I hope you are well and happy my friend. Congratulations on POTD honors! Keep safe xxoo

Congrats Eileen on the POTD, a real fine write (honestly). This is a message that needs to be heard as probably most of us are guilty of this. Have a great weekend, Blessings, Gordon

Congratulations on POTD. I think we are all at fault, visiting and not really having something constructive to say , that it was a nice poem. I don't like finding fault in anything. Besides all your poems are always worth reading. Hugs Eve

"Oh dear, it's divine!" Just kidding, you have raised a valid point, which I have struggled with as a comment giver and recipient. If I give you a falsely positive comment, you may not believe me the next time I give a sincerely positive comment. Better to leave no comment if there's nothing sincere to say. But this one is worthy of comment (great job, Eileen!) and of potd. Well done, friend.

We all write differently, and that is what makes us all truly unique. I find that amazing! I am not able to comment on every poem, but those that I read- I comment according to what the writer has placed upon the page. Feeling the words. The emotions. Keep writing your beautiful poetry. Your words touch the hearts of many. Congratulations Eileen, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. ~ Brandy

A comment on a work of Art is a due respect, an acknowledgement, a validation of its value and worth.. A poet who inspires genuine beauty, depth, Light and Love is worthy of all the respect, honour and recognition.. Congratulations, Eileen, on your POTD honour! I liked the way you have rendered your thoughts into a wonderful poetry.. A great pleasure to read.. My deepest regards and blessings.

This poem makes a lot of sense, Eileen. I wrote something similar a few years back. Friendship, pity, return favours, respect should not be excuses for comments passed. Fair and honest critique is all I ask for. ~ Hugs // paul
