Dolly Pentreath

Oh, so average, was this wee lady. Her ordered life had its hum-drum ways. Eighteenth Century! All are ready To hear the voice that's spoken in plays. But Dolly Pentreath had of it none. Shunning the new, she kept her own tongue. When she died, with her life full done, Twas last Cornish speak that Cornwall heard sung.

Interesting tale, Hilda: It is good that some cling onto their old ways, otherwise that knowledge would be lost. SuZ

I also dislike change. Dolly hung on to her culture. She wasn't a fadist.

A new one for me, too, Hilda, but I enjoyed reading about her.

Thank you. It isn't a big story in history, but Dolly is similar to many who refuse to give up their native tongue.

A great tribute to a person whose linguist capabilities are now recognised by all.

Thank you. She was a Celt. The language is nearly lost.

Wow! I did not know who this fine lady was. Looked her up on line, learned a lot about steadfast character, love of Mother Tongue, and gaining respect nationally for being tried and true. Great read! You get a FAV!

I love the rhymes here dear Hilda, i do not know her but youve given an idea of who it is through your words woven here. I love the line “ Shunning the new, she kept her own tongue.” very few stay true to their ways so this must be a special personality. Pleasure reading you always! Sending you light always

Thank you for your positive comment. I have been studying the Celts. Dolly Pentreath was from the Celt people (Cornish) in Cornwall England.
