Notes About The Poem

Dedicated to Ollyver, the most amazing pet dog I ever had, a mini Eskimo. I was his "person" and he would only come to me. Truly man's AND woman's best friend a dog can be.

Dog Chases Tail

Dog chases tail, and we laugh, assuming
he must be excited or merely bored.
Meanwhile, the cat licks herself for grooming.
If I saw my dog do that, I’d be floored!
Dogs lick and eat things I find disgusting,
but unlike the cat, dogs are more a friend.
As said, he’s “man’s best friend,” and so trusting.
Loyal a dog can be until the end.

I had a dog like that a long time ago.
Unhygienic, yes, but he was so true.
Along our fence line, running to and fro,
barking at passers-by he was wont to do.
No one he'd ever catch. So silly . . . yet
he was my adorable, most loved pet.

Congratulations Andrea on another well earned triumph. The humour superbly crafted, depth of feeling and attachment are the salient features here. Iin addition the rhythmic flow is second to none. Glad you liked my Euphoria poem Howard

Heartiest congratulations on your podium win in my contest with this wonderful sonnet, Andrea. What a cute story. It's a delightful read. It's devastating to lose a beloved pet. RIP, Ollyver.

- Dogs and cats lick themselves to get clean ... for us humans it is unsanitary ... but perfectly normal for the animals - I've never had cats ... but always had dogs :) - (tail-catching... disappeared a bit in your poem, Andrea ) - Good luck in the contest :) - hugs
