Do you ever feel you can’t be you

When it comes to social situations 

Feel pressured to attend and be seen

Conform ….due to others expectations


Do you ever feel you want to run away

To a place where you are free

To be alone with only authentic you

To Just Be!

Touched my soul, dear Deb. Absolutely! I feel it often. The pressure in this world to be like everyone wants us to be is destructive. We shouldn't have to do it their way to be at peace. Many will relate to this poem. The choice to turn inside and find peace as your authentic self will seem like a choice to be anti-social to many in one's family and among friends and acquaintances. They'll likely be an adjustment period that will cause a feeling that is commonly call loneliness. Love, Bill

Life is full of other peoples expectations and perhaps age brings more of an attitude of ‘l want to do what l want now’ or perhaps with we become less tolerant of the expectations…..who knows…..thankyou my dear friend! Debx

I actually care less or not at all about what people think of me nowadays….however l am less tolerant and interested in social situations…..canny be boffered! Ha…..Debx

I think as we get older it happens to us even within the family. Its obviously not an uncommon occurrence….we are still loved the same though! Thanks sweet Darlene…Debx

Yes, have definitely felt this way. Being out of place is so uncomfortable. Seems as if social situations require a certain level of conformity...perhaps that's why I don't like them much...nicely done, Deb...have a great evening, Sara

Yes, take me out of this executive work environment and put me in nature wearing my overalls (35 year plea)! What you write of is applicable, I would think, to all people; all have felt out of place at one time or another. AND 'authentic' is one of my favorite words, authentic is so important to me. A life that is not authentic, it's not real, ergo your life was wasted - that line of thought. Poetry hugs ... CayCay
