DO AS I SAY AND NOT AS I SAY

"DO AS I SAY AND NOT AS I DO??"
By Austin Fwasan Maseko

They preach of virtues, with words so bright
But their actions whisper, a different light
They say "do as I say", with a wink and a grin
But their own path's winding, and often within

They tell me to walk, the straight and narrow way
But they take the broad road, come what may
They speak of kindness, and love for all
But their hearts are guarded, with a stubborn wall

Their words are honey, sweet and so fine
But their deeds are bitter, like a fruit that's unripe
They counsel patience, but rush with each test
And wonder why, their advice isn't best

They quote proverbs, and scriptures old
But their lives are a puzzle, with pieces that don't hold
They talk of forgiveness, but hold on to grudges tight
And preach of humility, with a superior light

They say "follow me", but their footsteps are faint
And the path they lead, is often shrouded in paint
They promise rewards, for deeds done right
But their own rewards, are often left in the night

Their counsel is like, a leaky bucket, it's true
It drains away quickly, and doesn't see me through
But still they speak, with conviction and zeal
And wonder why, I don't always listen and heal.
