Divine Drink

It took many years to realize the truth
That from the day I was born
I was a blackened, charred soul: torn

A genetic anomaly
that happens in a family
A line of thinkers-
A line of drinkers.

No matter where I wandered,
I always followed myself
To get rid of this hell
There was no farewell.

I traveled the globe
when I was but a kid
Running scared, always hiding
From this demon in myself
The liquid poured in disillusion
Drank down in destitution.

Hate and anger poured with every drop
Oh God, how I wanted to stop.
This addiction held me
As a true slave to it’s misery-

One day, I forsake my divine drink
And held it at bay
Decided to fight, be it my last day
And continue this eternal battle I will
To abstain from this abyss
To turn a new leaf and finally to feel
Life-love has become an emphatic thrill.
