Distant Voices
Distant sounds are calling from yesteryear
Messages now cold from long, long ago,
Important voices I often refused to hear.
I shut out many of them because of fear,
Some considered from an acknowledged foe
Distant sounds are calling from yesteryear.
Reminding me of my own Mother dear,
Who warned me life was fraught with woe
Important voices I often refused to hear.
Now I wrestle with my conscience’s tear
To escape nagging advice, where do I go?
Distant sounds are calling from yesteryear
Wherever I go, they are pleading in my ear
Their sacred origins I believe I know,
Important voices I often refused to hear.
Didactic words of advice, strangely **eer,
For times have changed dramatically, so
Distant sounds are calling from yesteryear,
Important voices I often refused to hear.
