Distance Makes the Heart Grow Stronger

I know the phrase, read the lines, I always thought this was so true
If I love and apart then to join again is a wonderful moment, bliss, joy, whole
In my old life, it seemed so true, I was away, long times in turn
Coming home to waiting love, this saying of sorts made sense

After the end I had no place, not to come back to, got used to it
Just me, an independence, a freedom, of heart no need 
Time changes us and so it did me, never a need to long, to yearn to miss
Expecting nothing, no reciprocal love, and so over time much changed

At a point, though never in thought, I must have found no need of such
These emotions gone, unrequired, serving no purpose, to reason to have
Then came you, but I thought, it is okay to be distant, real points on a map
It happened of course, after a time, and then it caught me out

Plans we have and we speak of a future and neither have doubt
We talked, knew a time would pass, before we continue our road, our union
I said it was ok, It is good to be apart, after so long alone this is ok
Both the same, we talked this through, agreed detente, believed it so true

And now, I know my head lied, my head wanted space, my heart needs you
All the things missed, I had hidden away, came back in a rush
All this love I relearnt, I tried hard but can’t let go, it haunts me now
We talk long distance, we share this feeling, hard for us both

In my world now, distance makes the longing stronger
