Disrobing the King

emotions roil ~
royal red, head
of humanity,
the second Adam —
painting of El Greco.
women at Jesus feet,
crowd of crowds
presses in.
the King of kings
prepared to be disrobed ~
a season of sin,
captured by a mind,
a talent inherent ~
redeeming all,
who might see,
and believe.
the gray cloud of men,
a monotone whirlwind,
yet for these,
a central figure,
passionate as a rose.
they know not what they do,
already forgiven,
all forsaken who do not
receive the precious gift
of calvary.
who were these soldiers who
tread the skin of the savior?
sunlight bows the executioner,
who will on that day of days
hit his knees in sorrowful praise,
for every knee shall bow
as the scriptures say.
for now he hangs over a tree
ready to hammer the blow
of humanity as the devil
howls with glee.
the Savior, upright scorned,
looks ever upward, ready
to be received, to go back home
whence He came, and prepare
a place for His bride.
eminence of royal red,
central figure of all trials.
the heavens opened up
to El Greco. we wait,
we cling to this blood wet
masterpiece!
