I met him when I was young
He was always puzzling, a confusion
Causing me to wonder at my ideas
And making me dread my fears
He was the best football player
And had all the right moves with ladies
I happened to be one of his favorites
And I never could seem to say no to him
He always left me feeling like a game
That he’d played so appropriately
Given me that kiss and gentleness
Only to leave me with a loss of intimacy
As I grew older, I still gave in to him
With all the hysteria he brought to me
Messy days with chaotic twists in the hours
Feeling like a jumble of emotions inside
Then came a day when I said no more of him
I left him there looking confused and panicked
With only a last kiss, a hug and a whisper
That said I’ve broken that pull you had on me
Finally, I can say that I’m strong and fierce
Feeling like a woman with the confidence I need
To reach out toward a man who won’t use
And confuse me with their continual disarray
