Disability

Life with a disability is hard,
This I know, but lots of people 
Are still unaware of 
Non visible disabilities.

These people treat us unfairly,
Creating problems and pinning 
The blame on us for their actions,
Leading them to trouble.

The reason for their behaviour 
Unknown, maybe unaware of 
The law, maybe the way they
Were raised, maybe just no sense.

Perhaps they don’t like
Seeing us succeed in anything.
Or do they need training?
This I would like to know.

Lack of support from them
Is lack of effort from us,
Especially in work where
Support is important.

Please support us,
Wherever we are.
Without support,
There is no hope for anyone,
Including the non supporters.

Jan Allison June 28, 2023 at 5:26 PM having worked with students with additional needs for 16 years i can relate big time Catherine. sometimes people's attitudes are down to ignorance as not all disabilities are visible. hugs jan xx Catherine Smillie June 29, 2023 at 12:23 AM Yes, it’s hard to tell what people are thinking. Recently, 7 of us including myself received a warning at work for leaving boxes on the shop floor, not restocking the items etc. and there are some colleagues I have never met so I thought these complaints came from someone who doesn’t know me or anything about my disability.
