True event that occurred about 15 years ago by the St. Marks lighthouse in Florida.  If I hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t have believed it.

Dinner Time

The scaly, green creature emerged
To a beach where swimmers converged

How quickly the crowd stepped aside
As the fourteen-foot reptile hit stride

From the Gulf to a nearby pond
He stepped in and poof, he was gone

Only then did we see the sign
Half hidden by a creeping vine

What’s this? Do we need translators?
“Please don’t feed the alligators”

As I see it the problem is this.. the gardeners have been fed to the Alligators as a way of keeping municipal costs down Carolyn, and I am not sure on what may be the fate of any translators..'

Carolyn, you had me hooked from the git-go on this one. While giving clews, you never fully disclosed the critter till the last line. Good poetic skills here.

Had you not been there to see it, I would not have believed it, Carolyn! A story well recounted, keeping our full attention; the end line makes for a fitting climax! A warning to be heeded. Hugs // paul

I had never seen an alligator in the Gulf of Mexico prior to this incident. It probably stayed close to shore. People were more than willing to give it space when it stepped out of the Gulf. LOL
