Did You
Did you once think of me
returning,
all eager-eyed, reflecting;
my skin tingling,
hands restless;
crooked smile, expecting?
Did you once consider
needing,
late at night and calling;
your voice trembling,
breath bated,
tears softly falling?
Did you once imagine
feeling,
warm with arms inviting;
lips engorging,
eyes shining,
flesh exposed, exciting?
Did you once list to
empathising,
with earnest contemplation;
soul-searching,
life absolving,
sheer consideration?
Or did you simply stay
dismissive,
insulated and denying;
hard-hearted,
stamping, kicking
love ‘till it was dying?
Did you once think of
my heart
remaining ever true;
or does that thought
expect too much
of someone such as you?
