April 13, 1944 saw all 108 inhabitants of the obscure town of Vallucciole in Tuscany murdered for retribution. An aged Italian immigrant who knew many of those killed visited the ruins for the last time. She has expressed much hurt and anger over this insane massacre throughout her life. In order to preserve the reputation of local fighters as heroes, the victims in Vallucciole have received no official recognition.

Two Nazis the partisans killed For revenge a town's blood was spilled Resistors forgot Townsfolk would be shot Where hell seems forever instilled

What a terrible event such a tragedy . Love the video met John Lennon twice in London in the sixties, once in Abbey road where I was working, then in Leicester square.

Thanks John. That’s a great story. We were really sorry what happened here to end John Lennon. We have too many mentally ill people and some either guns. War is also terrible and what happens to innocent people horrifies many of us.

Yes, this is not well known at all. It's deliberately omitted from texts and materials about this area to try to protect some sensitive egos. Gee, that sounds familiar.

Dear duke another one of your powerful poems, thats what dictators and inhuman rulers do, feed the innocent fear and hell forever instilled, when waking up for them was even so very painful, as reality was so very cold! Your limerick’ Is soul hitting! What we see in some parts of the world today too. Sending you light always

You are so wise and kind IE. All of these war stories told by those who experienced the aftermaths are important lessons. I recently visited the American WWII cemetery in Luxembourg. It brought tears to my eyes as we humans don't seem to learn that the hurt of war is unbearable and lasts for so long. I feel so bad for the people who will never experience the joys that we have available to us. Hard to fathom.

Such haunting and devastating images created by your limerick and the hate behind its story. Very well done Duke! So sad!

Thanks for the positive feedback Mike! It's all rather sad, and I hope we get more peace. I am learning how to have a personal life that is not encumbered by greed, but we have a lot of work to do in society.

Dear Duke, your limerick illuminates the dark horrors of war. Man’s inhumanity to man is a harsh, ongoing lesson in sadness, hate, depravity and insanity.. when will mankind evolve beyond this relentless blood thirst for power and retribution.. a thought provoking piece my poet friend. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Thanks Susan. I really can't understand why it is so hard to eliminate war. However, I do understand that some power hungry people will use war and violence for perceived egotistical gain. We should not agree to it. BTW, I was not pleased when the US went to an all volunteer army. We should all do service and having a volunteer army makes it easier to send young people into war. We should be making war harder and not easier.

The Nazis were brutal they tried to instil fear carrying out reprisals against innocent civilians and it still goes on, look at Putins dogs running amok in Ukraine. Hope you're keeping well Duke, enjoy your weekend. Tom

Tom, I am in total agreement with your assessment. Putin uses the same punishing tactics against civilians. There are people on Putin's payroll trying to affect public opinion in the US, and he is sparing no expense to try to have his guy (D.T.) elected here. Many people are in denial about it.

Thanks Tom...yes, there are elements of this incident that remind us of things going on today. The person who goes back to Italy periodically probably knew some of the people in this particular town, and that explains why she is so distraught about what the partisans did. This event reminds me of things happening even now. Hope you are well!!!!
