Devilish

He said, "Hello". I Said, "Who are you?" He said, "I am the Devil". I said, "C'mon man. You're not on the level". He said, "Yes, I am". "I can't talk to you. My morals forbid". The Devil said, "You just did." "No I didn't", I said. "Yes, you did". I shut my mouth and stopped scoffing. As he vanished, I heard him laughing.

This describes a very interesting encounter and cut off. So, we sometimes involve ourselves in a situation to determine what it is about. Perhaps we feel we have something to gain or perhaps we can help. Getting clear when our radar says watch out is sometimes difficult depending on how far we've gone. So caution is not a bad thing. Research is also good. We wish people would do more of it.

In the poem, the Devil is fully in charge. I guess on first meeting, it's best to aim for equality. But this is out of my league. I hope you liked it. Thanks for reading.

And I was hearing loffing…just for the fun of it. The last laugh is on the devil. At that time he will only have himself to talk to.

I figured the English would say loffing so I threw it in. Close enough. Speaking to him is a mistake, at least, per Christianity. Yet, I believe, a spot on a talk show is a possibility. Maybe The View? Oh, forgot, he's a regular there.

oh my, a devilish encounter. The 'loop' was a perfect way to show how beguiling the devil can be. I agree with Ink, I encounter people like this fairly frequently. I've learned not to engage them just as I wouldn't engage the devil. A creative conversation and poem, hugs, Sara

I'm glad you liked this one. I had been thinking about how one should never engage the Devil, and the poem came to mind. The devil can work through people, as you suggest.

Dear Hilda, your poems always leaves an impression, one to ponder upon and contemplate. And from this I gathered, sometimes some people too, make us feel this way , and the best thing to do is respond with silence as they continue to argue and fool our intelligence with their own logic. Some might show the sun and and say its raining and we are supposed to believe too. Sorry if i thought too deep but thats the power of your words. Youv made me think so deep . Pleasure reading your work always

Another jewel from your gifted pen. An absorbing fusion of witticism and philosophical depth. Elements of intrigue found in the devilishly humorous end lines Howard kerr

Thank you. It ended abruptly, so we'll never know what else he had to say.

Oh, that ending is really intriguing, dear Hilda.. Such an interesting theme of a devilish encounter, though can be perceived metaphorically in many ways. I can almost imagine this! And how you've scripted those last two lines, woah, they speak of some depth, depicting how evil auras can be dealt with if we hold strength.. Those still can be interpreted in many ways, there's a witty sense in this write.. Loved reading your words, sending best wishes & light ~

I hope you liked it. It can apply to Devil or people. Some bad things just need to be closed off.
