For the This or That poetry contest by Edward Ibeh

There is an illusion of dishonesty in darkness,
so we rejoice when spring sings saccharine serenades.
I've always been a soul yearning for summer scents,
but somewhere the seasons got lost in translation.
Not all honest hearts can remain evergreen,
when memories like wraiths of past demons,
echo in eerie vibrations of autumnal whispers.

The dark side of my mind is an oxymoron of fictional truth.
A harmony between her reality and my empathy.
I recall a lost childhood when the ghosts of winter besieged me,
as all the melted snow rotted my roots -

I pondered how do I regrow my frostbitten petals?

To determine the odyssey of my destiny,
I sowed a million seeds hoping you would
devour the nectar of my honeyed blossoms.

I finally found you awake like an insomniac,
in a sleeping wintery world of monsoon wickedness,
like a queen bee tangled in a cobweb of lies,
so I followed your scintillating silhouette
into a dark maze of silent shadows time had forgot.

I felt your pain through every window pane of your soul.
No one can heal all your hidden trauma,
but I can distract you from those unwelcome voices,
gathering all the shards of your cracked mirrors,
placing them into a purifying fountain of understanding.

I was artless within my garden,
until I swam in your artistic aquarium.

Oh my vintage rose,
you can be bronze, ivory or crimson,
I care not for the cover of your covert book,
for you remind me of my faith
in the dilemma of desperate hope.

I know sometimes I make mistakes,
but every time you cry,
I wish you would take my sight,
so you can see the world in a positive light.
If I could gift you an eagle's spirit,
maybe you would fly into my arms,
so when we watch the dreaming stars -
I would show how they shimmer in your eyes.

"you can see the world in a positive light. If I could gift you an eagle's spirit, maybe you would fly into my arms" grandly poetical. Congratulations!

Beautiful and romantic I love these lines and others! But these paint your selfless deeply caring spirit! Bravo on being able to reveal raw emotion so brilliantly! Congratulations on a win!

You make forgiveness and redemption shimmer. Keep sowing a million seeds. It's not the kernel that shines best, but the body of work that bespeaks light in the dead of winter.

Awww this is a deeply touching prose.. such devotion, ah I'm just in awe of this! "The dark side of my mind is an oxymoron of fictional truth. A harmony between her reality and my empathy" this whole prose is just full of true artistic admiration. The last 2 paragraphs are just so gorgeous.. vintage rose reminded me of my poem, winter rose. A true honest love like this is that we all often desire! Loved loved this tribute to your muse brother!

Love those first two lines & so I followed your scintillating silhouette into a dark maze of silent shadows time had forgot… purifying fountain of understanding…You seem to be a very compassionate person. So much here to ponder but I also like: The dark side of my mind is an oxymoron of fictional truth.

Dear silent one, first of all, i love the song youve shared, i love nightcore, secondly, this poem truly touched my soul and heart and i can feel the depth of emotions woven here in such a meticulous manner. And your subtle use of alliterations and imagery here and way of phrasing thoughts truly is impeccable and so soul stirring, i love how you’ve started the poem, and as i read i cant help but think, everyone needs a soul, that can find them during their darkness, to save them from drowning

Best wishes for the contest, you’ve nailed it as always, and i think you are one of the finest that weave emotions and longing in such eloquence, one that would always be an inspiration for me and many others for how descriptive you are! I love this so much! Definitely a fave for me . Sending you light always

And show light when everything seems to be fading. I really love every line in this, that made me tear up but mostly “ I was artless within my garden, until I swam in your artistic aquarium.” Beautiful! And so touching how you’ve expressed how you found your muse when you found an aquarium where a mermaid showed you colors of the sea that can be as beautiful as your garden.. “ I know sometimes I make mistakes, but every time you cry, I wish you would take my sight, so you can see the world in a positive light.“ these lines made me cry really! Soul hitting! Sigh! The way you writ is so poetic but also evocative and readers can feel the depth of what you convey: and i think this fits the title and prompt you’ve written for too.
