Desert Religions

so many
worship authoritarian gods
of the desert
reminding us of the spirit
that is in fact us

wind deiven
sands greet me every morning
of my life
in god's living presence
I look up once more and know

the name
escapes me day and night
resting quietly
it comes and rests in my heart
and breathes me with a song

scent
of night-blooming jasmine
beckons me
to sleep and dream of love
the hot sun awakens my thirst
