This is purely written for an on-line competition. I am thankful I do not suffer, but have friends who do.

Dark clouded thoughts are dashing round in my head Should I end it all – would I be better off dead The tablets helped for a little while On good days I could even raise a smile Depression looms over me like an angry black cloud Some days all I do is scream and cry out loud If I ended it all would anyone cry Do they really care if I live or die I’ve tried to end my life once before I was found me helpless on the kitchen floor They kept me in hospital my life was on the brink They gave me some treatment and got me a shrink But no matter what they do or say My depression it is here to stay Oh how I crave for normality To have a job, even raise a family But pill popping and black thoughts are all I know Things from my past haunt me from so many years ago There is no colour in my life its all just black and white Shall I give in to depression and give up this earthly fight Jan Allison 13th March 2014 Written for an on-line competition – NOT from personal experience. ~ please see my notes above about this poem~

Mother "Mary can be compared to a beautiful ray of sunshine on a cloudy afternoon." (St. Jean Vianney). "O Mary, you are the Sunshine of our lives. Let your rays of grace shine into my heart and cast out the darkness of sin and despair. Let me hope always in you." (Mary Day by Day prayerbook). Mary, be a mother to me now. (Prayer of Mother Teresa). Mary, lead me closer to your Son's Heart. Mother Mary you're the exemplar mother-in-law for all us ladies who are in love with Jesus. Jesus, forgive!

This is a very good write if you have never suffered from depression Jan as from first hand experience you need to go there to understand it fully. Great piece . Andy

Very well presented. Depression is hard to cope with, and many are those who suffer it endlessly. I know what it means...I had to deal with some such cases. // paul

Thanks for the comment Paul. i actually found this very hard to write - it's taken about 10 days on and off - a difficult subject to tackle. I hope I have done a good job. Jan x

Well written dear...In poetry " I " means " You "...A true poet tries to write universal pains , loves , attitude etc . These may not be related with his personal life . Poet hear the voice of nature , people , things etc in the universe . Truly I have a great mother , lovely wife and intelligent son ...So I try to realize the world with my consciousness ...I do believe that poetry is true history of the people on that time...Best wishes from India...I am grateful...

You write powerfully in this poem - even more so since it is not an autobiographical piece. Nice going! Peace & Love Matthew Anish
