Depression Premiere Contest Winner

DEPRESSION Depression is like a hole in the ground that sucks you in a different ground, where it's dark, no matter what time of day and you're alone, night and day, to stay. It invades and ravages your mind. It distorts your thoughts and disrupts your way of thinking. It numbs your senses and feelings. You have no idea how depression steals your joy, your control, your soul and how it robs your well-being, for you become empty, helpless and start questioning your being. You are there physically; however, you are not really there totally. You look at the well-meaning people around you; but you feel they are not really there for you, for they have no idea, no clue of what you are going through. For some, they are able to get better overtime, as time heals, and are able to cope again. For some, depression turns into addiction, as they get addicted to the medication. For some, they choose the path that is deadly, as for them, there is no love, no emotional support, no money, no pills or medication, no rehab or therapy would cure the overwhelming melancholy. Nothing will make it wholesome again, nothing will let them see the light again for all they feel is the sadness and all they see is the darkness and they are stripped of hope and take their own lives.

Having gone through a bout of depression before, this excellent, powerful piece resonated with me. Depression is no joke! It's a total nightmare to endure. By the grace of God I'm still here, not every sufferer see the light at the end of the tunnel unfortunately. Congratulations on your trophy win, Marilene!:-) You should like my personification Depression poem. It's on page 3. Blessings to you! <3

Thanks so much Edward. I did read the one you wrote. There are just so many out there suffering from this disease. I'm glad that you overcame this disease for it tears you to pieces.

Congratulations on your win Marilene. I dont suffer with depression but have nursed people who do. I understand totally your choice of words in your poem. Certainly the worst thing anyone can say is "Get over it" yet I heard so many families of sufferers say it. To all except the sufferer, depression is invisible.

Thanks so much, Gary... the families of sufferers could say, we're here for you or just silence with sincere smile and a hug and lots of prayers.

Thanks so much, Sam. Yes, it is a horrible disease. How I wish people who suffer from it, would get out of it.

Many thanks, Jan! Its sad that Depression takes lives. I always wonder why, especially with successful ones who have them all?? One of life's mystery.
