Denial, Lift Your Cross and Follow - Matthew 16: 24-26

Jesus Christ is God in all His fullness
here He draws His apostles to hear
the importance of what He has to say
for this is what keeps you in top gear

Denial is a word little used today
nobody wants or knows its meaning
but Jesus here says to deny yourself
so to come after Him and indeed stay

Jesus promises we all have our cross
so He commands us to take it up
whatever that'll mean, pain and sorrow
for Jesus took up His cross, truly a full cup

Then we are to go and follow
follow this Jesus on His chosen path
a path ordained from heaven above
any other way brings on God's wrath

Forsake all the world's promises
for that brings only failure and loss
heavens riches and victory are ours
when we take up Christ on the cross

(Matthew 16:24-26
Then Jesus said to his apostles, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what would it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life?")
