Delayed Justice
Forgive me, Lord, when I should err today
It is my bent, how well we know, I stray;
It is natural to me. I understand you see
Me as you desire me to be, for apparently,
I had not the courage for what I should be.
I seek your forgiveness after the fact
For discipline I obviously severely lacked
When I considered not your plans for me,
I had not the courage for what I should be
I only did what most pleased me.
If someday I stand before the bar of justice
All mediation aside -- just the two of us
I shall, of course, plead I did the best I could
Fully aware of a plethora of choices for good
Neglected, I chose against the paths I should.
