Try to imagine being owned,
bought, and sold as one's property.
Denied your liberty for life
and fed to dogs for amusement.
When confronting racial unrest,
try to imagine being owned.
And the added degradation
of being spat on and beaten.
Slavery's harder to forgive
when blacks believe they're still enslaved.
Try to imagine being owned
or made to feel that way today.
Black lives matter marchers tend to
be in your face and demanding.
But before you belittle them,
try to imagine being owned.
