Deep Autumn's Rise

DEEP AUTUMN’S RISE

Deep autumn rises
Alike a fond glance
At a balding friend

One is suddenly aware
That life – almost suddenly – changes
Almost certainly ends

Some idealists reach back
To summer to a warmer time
And find upon vision’s inner screen

A happiness all picnics
Beach volley summer moon’s kiss
All the earth gone green

And oh yes deep autumn’s fall
That sea of curl rust and ruby
Has open air painting’s charm

But maid moon when seen cold circled
Through barren branches
Gives one’s summer soul alarm

Dave Austin

A clear view of the coming end Daver, I see your analogy decreasing circles, and yet not so 'fearsome' merely a new awakening, for those holding fast to 'Christ' I may be repeating the oft quoted Yet the truth is still that for all conjecture may your years be blessed.'

Daver, was looking back at your recent poems in the past few months. I think this one was my favorite!

Some people just like to live happily with no serious thoughts. That works only for a short time, because we can't be blind to the truth and troubles around us... This was an interesting read. Very eye opening! Great writing and expressive imagery, Daver!

Beautifully written and well expressed Daver, my friend. I love each season as it comes because each one is needed in the balance of Nature. I love the brilliant colors of Autumn but the pristine white and pale colors of Winter are so serene. However by the time Christmas has come and gone I am yearning for the beautiful pastels of Spring and then the brighter colors of Summer and the warm Summer winds. Great job here. Missed you Been gone awhile due to illness but am bouncing back God Bless, JB

Autumn might be my favorite season, Daver! Love to see "That sea of curl" and smell the "open air painting's charm".:) Still, those last 3 lines are a reality check.:( Thanksgiving hugs to you! Love, Mikki

I loved fall as a kid, but old age changes the perspective. A warm hug for you. Dave

Daver, I am one of the idealists who looks back upon the happy times beneath a "summer moon's kiss." Maybe if you visited and saw the "maid moon" through palm tree branches, you would not experience the "soul alarm." For some, fall heralds an unwanted winter season. Your images are quite vivid and I love this poem. (Winter is a desirable season in Florida.) Keep the kitties warm. Love, carolyn

I guess you Floridians don't worry about fall or winter, so this is meant for us frozen souls up north. Love, Dave
