Deep and Empty
`
this heart seeps
at each tiny crack
longing to be healed
pain gathers in the chambers
lost among the echoes
of voices I once heard
darkness grips my eyes
hands reach forward, back
wanting something I can’t have
searching, I find it
though hoping I wouldn’t
but there it is, waiting, tormenting
where is it written
that the sand shall
absorb the blood fallen
that tears
are never seen
when wept inside
that time can count
on something
but I can’t
even these words
a scribbled mess
of thoughts are wasted
ink faded in the sun
that no longer shines
where it once did
oh, I have seen things
and I have felt things,
but nothing will ever be
as this tree I lean on
all alone, roots deeply travel
only finding earth
and as I dig deeper
the space facing me invites
and I think about it
a pit to place
my heart, to alleviate
the pain
and like this space
deep and empty
so am I
