December Light
She sits gazing out the window
at the waning afternoon sun
and leans forward in her soft chair
to catch the last bits of daylight.
She recalls her late husband and siblings
as the light fades and snow begins to fall.
She remembers her son from months ago
who visited and lived in New Hampshire
now buried beneath the fresh white snow.
She thinks about her great grandchildren
and how lucky she is to be around
watching them grow, hearing their laughter
savoring these many precious memories.
Sitting in the December darkness
she welcomes tender thoughts of family
that illuminates her spirit all year long.
