Death Left a Scar

the headstone reads In Loving Memory . . . though the clock of time ticks and ticks I will not forget for your death left a scar on the map of my soul dad- my heart swells with a sea of tears when I come to visit you in this place of cold stones the clouds sail happy across the sky but my heart is held by a chain of lead you were the kind a man who lived each day loving nature and teaching this girl everything I can still see us meandering a winding trail and how we loved to feed the ducks on the pond the sweet memories last amid the dregs of sorrow my life is weather stained and ravaged since that sad day . . . I have fallen to my knees asking why why, why, why, why, why, why - until my last breath dad, you are in my heart oh, I held you in death and did not want to let go of your cold hand . . . . holding it to my cheek _______________________ June 29, 2020 Poetry/Free Verse/death left a scar Copyright Protected, ID 20-1263-974-03 All Rights Reserved, 2020, Constance La France Written for the contest, In Loving Memory sponsor, Regina Riddle First Place
