Death Has No Dominion

DEATH HAS NO DOMINION

"O my love, my wife!

Death, that hath suck'd the honey of thy breath

Hath had no power yet upon thy beauty."

Thy youth and matchless beauty reign supreme

And have not been corrupted by death’s hand.

Those yielding lips, like cherries from the south,

Still offer seeming heaven to mine eyes.

My jealous soul remarketh thy coy loss :

I ask is death thy new true lover now?

Fie! Keep his courtship at a distance cold !

With thee, my love, forever would I stay -

And enter death’s dark temple as a man

Who seeketh there his lost and broken heart.

Through yon temple door do I quickly step

To meet that smile of thine and never leave.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I enjoyed the read, Sydney, and wish you well in the contest! I really liked "coy loss". I personally found it difficult to write 15th century English. But then, it's nice to challenge ourselves, yes? ;-) High Five from Cyndi
