This poem is the outcome of a very frustrating day having taken my child for testing (years ago). The technicians were virtually robots, it was a frightening and surreal experience not only for my child, but myself.

Pale pasty forms, Soft bodies draped, Covered in the sameness, Dead eyes, Smiles with no heart, Step-step-step, Echoing on corridor floors. Behind computer terminals, Pressing keys, Alone, Room after room after room.

We live in a nation with 19th-century values, e.g., "an eye for an eye". Though Henry Ford proved the value of an healthy, well-educated work force to other nations, the USA Congress continue to insist all that is necessary is a well-armed military. As a consequence, American medicine is not concerned with cures, but in prolonging ailments to repay student loans and to increase profits. People who care about the welfare of patients get the sack!

Hi Debra, It was such an unsettling experience; breathing individuals who seemed possessed by the mechanics of their work. Glad I was able to express it with understanding for my readers. Blessings, Paulette
