Notes About The Poem

Dear Kitty Friend

Dear Kitty friend, the first day that we met
I noticed right away how sleek you were.
From head to tiny paws, you were a jet
black, and soft to the touch was your smooth fur!

I brought you home, and said, "Here's our new cat."
"But aren't black cats bad luck?" my husband said.
How ludicrous he was! Dear, don't mind that!
With you, I've never had a thing to dread.

For six years now, you've lived inside our house,
and every night you curl up next to me.
You are so beautiful, and now my spouse
adores you too. You purr a lullaby
which soothes me, as each night, to sleep I drift.
If anything, you've been our GOOD luck gift!

This is precious Andrea. Cats can give us such unconditional love, as dogs do. A lovely entry! : )

Aww, how sweet, Andrea. We had to put out black cat down a couple months ago but we still have 3 cats remaining, all female, who get much more attention than I. So I live with wife, 2 daughters, and 3 female cats...I'm outnumbered! John

This is very cute and fetching. I like the way you bring sonnets down to earth with the language you use. And it all fits in the meter perfectly.
