Dear John
Dear John,
Forgive me for asking
For the ignorance I concede
Oblivious to a man’s true love
Oblivious to betrayal’s true creed
What can I possibly say
To silence a snapshot of pain
One frozen frame of infamy
Stinging like a coarse autumn rain
I wish I could have been there
To tell you myself
To stand before your convictions
So you could see for yourself
I know you can’t hear me
Or even know that I exist
But a heartbeat can't be silenced
When courage has two open fists
Please believe me
Though you’re no longer here
You’re in my thoughts, Mr. President
And I too...will never live in fear
