Deaf Ears

When our suggestions fall on deaf ears And what we think carries little weight, We begin to realize our deepest fears When ideas we cherish do not resonate. Saddened by another’s lack of concern When our suggestions fall on deaf ears Deep down we feel a bit of heartburn, Occasionally it wells up in bitter tears. At heart, we have their best, our peers And share only what we think is wise, When our suggestions fall on deaf ears Or, are met with utter disdain and guise. ‘Tis best to slough off disappointment Replace it with thoughts of good cheers, And follow up with a fun entertainment When our suggestions fall on deaf ears.

I find that more of my suggestions fall on deaf ears the older I get, great poem Milton.

Me, too, Terry. Seems like these youngsters are too interested in hearing from an old man. So, I've learned to temper my suggestions and opinions.

It IS hard, isn't it? One tries his best to help, and the response is something like 'Whatever.' Nice recovery from the disappointment, Milt. :) Gershon

I generally just try to move on. I don't seem to have learned in my long lifetime that most people don't care to hear my ideas! And...that's okay by me.

Indiana, for some reason I seem to be attracted to poetry forms with repeating lines. I don't know why. Thanks for your encouraging comment. I appreciate it.
