Days Gone By

I sit here and think
"Who will speak of this day?"
For what
Did I do
That this day of my life
Should be spoken of
In the chronicles
Of history?

I think of my past
And
All the days
Like this one
That will never
Be spoken of
In the history books
Lost
To the past
Swallowed and forgotten
Except in my
Memory
And the memories of
A few others

For who are we?
But common people
Going about
Our daily lives
Like we always have
And
Most likely
Always will?
Great people who will never
Live on in history
Who
After death
Will fade
Lost
And forgotten
To this world
Except
In the memories
Of those who knew them

Who are we
And all our days
But common history?

As I sit here and think
On the days gone by
