Day One

Day one is the beginning of hard work- January and March has taken my life back to square one. Day one of each surgery, helpless as a new born baby. One step at a time, so close but so far away, Has prepared me for yet another surgery. Light at the end of the tunnel as dimmed once more. In August a surgery will take me back to another 'day one'. With my faith, determination and hard work, I'll be back on my feet in two shakes of a lamb's tail. Okay, maybe not quite that fast, but I think I can, I think I can, I know I can, like the "Little Engine That Could". Slowly climbing up and over, then I'll say, "I knew I could", By next year my 'day ones' will be far behind me. For Poet Destroyer's contest, 'Day One'

Reminds me of my appendectomy back in 1968 just before I reached the age of twelve. Good write.

It sure does get that way as we get older. So many day ones in the hospital for some people. I like the positive spin you put on this one.

The thing that struck me the most about this write has to be the fact that you have a lot of surgeries, are they all interconnected or they just different ones? I hope any pray for you that you don't have to have any more of them, also I hope that they are all successful in what they are trying to do! I go a lot out of this write my friend! Thank you for sharing this with all of us! What an amazing poem, Great Work!!

August will be my second cervical surgery since January from an old serious injury, and in March I had to have a lumbar surgery for a fractured spine, again from and old injury. I'm walking now, but my neck is pretty bad. By next year in August all the fusions should be fused enough for physical therapy. All I'm allowed to do is walk. My poor husband has double the work. Great guy he is. 6 lumbar surgeries and 5 cervical since 1981. I hope this will be my last. Thanks for your prayers. Warm Smiles, Connie
