Haiku = Nature - 3 lines Tanka = Man and Nature - 5 lines Senryu = Man & Nature, ending with irony or satire. - 3 lines In all of these Japanese forms, you may use up to 17 syllables, but it is not required. That requirement is an American interpretation.
