Darkling

Forget that I am shallow,
Or that I crave tears,
And that I am full of malice
Like a deceitful notion,
I am here to destroy.

Forget that I am terrible,
Or that you ought to fear my thoughts,
And array my silent hunt
That my hardness is soon upon you.

Forget that I am darkness,
And that I am everywhere

So sleep well in the night.

It is rather difficult to peacefully repose after reading this one, Brooke. This makes me think of an abusive situation, and it is frightening because sometimes it is true.
