Dark January
Dark January
It was a snowy January night.
Unknown to us, my husband's mom had passed.
Alone, asleep with no one by her side,
Except for Kitty...pet of eighteen years.
Our hearts were broken with mom's sudden death;
So loved by us and her dear family,
And loved by Kitty too, her constant joy
That she attended to with all her heart.
Mom was a nurse and gave Kitty her shots
For feline diabetes every day,
And treated her for many other ills.
How could the family now care for her.
The vet told us that she was very sick;
To put her down would be the only way.
Without her 'mom', her heart would surely break.
With heavy hearts, we could not disagree.
So Kitty rests with mom in peace of death,
Inside her coffin curled up there with her.
Just as she was the day we found them both,
Together on the bed that dreadful day.

True Story - January 1993
(Funeral director/friend at the time, placed Kitty in with mom.
Not usually done, but he did so as a favor.)
