Dandelions

Sustained by the frequent spring showers Adorned by rosettes of dark green They burst into dense yellow flowers The florets parading their sheen. They sway to sensations of pleasure The rhythmic allure of the breeze Then rest in the evening at leisure, Appear every day to increase. But soon comes the time for reversal The petals are destined to dry, Then globules of seeds for dispersal To nature’s intentions comply. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - This poem merits to win for the simple reason that dandelions are ill-treated and spoken of badly by many people, little realizing the beauty and good points which they have to share with us. I think dandelions are beautiful. Where I live they, as much as violets, are a harbinger of spring. Unfortunately lawn fanatics can't wait to spray a herbicide on their lawns and kill them. Wonderful flow and rhymes in this poem, Paul. / M

Hello Paul … I enjoyed the rhythm of your poem and the topic also. Even though the dandelion can be despised, many of us poets write about dandelions. I think they are wonderful - thank you Paul - Lindsay

Is this another non-winner? I think mine was too. You did wonderfully with the theme, Paul. I like that you made it succinct as well. I think I will get off here now for the day. So much else I should be doing, like for example, writing some poems!!! Thanks again for your fave.

Hi Paul, Spring is in the air, flowers pop up everywhere, and then die only to disperse their seeds, which will germinate and hibernate until Spring awakens them again next year - a never ending circle of seasons and flowers. A serene and beautiful poem Paul. Warm regard and hugs, Jenny.

A wonderful painting by an artist! I can see your brush drawing and colouring your well chosen and effective words.. I can see your dandelions dancing with the breeze then "complying with nature" to meet their fate! But your "Dandelions" won't "disperse or dry"! rather stand tall in the realm of beauty and poetry.. A win and a FAV. Deepest regards, Paul, and blessings.

Paul: So enjoyed this. Wonderful images and rhyme scheme. I love that you gave us their natural cycle. I live where we put dandelions in salads and make dandelion wine (which is like drinking salad from a bottle). This was just delightful!

You are right, Tom. I have learned to appreciate wild flowers since I began taking more interest in their visible and not so visible characteristics. I have even made a whole collection of the wild flowers growing in my locality. Regards // paul

You described the process exactly, Paul. Very nicely done! And well metered too. I came here to thank you for your words at Carolyn's blog and also to tell you about the trailers. Richard had me write 5 or 6 poems for trailers. But I suppose only if the movie sells will those trailers ever be seen. I have not seen if he even did them or not. Crossing my fingers anyway!!
