Playtime

the image of a bear dancing makes me want to weep and weep I push the scene away oh sweet baby bears taken from their mothers and the wild and trained to dance with an unimaginable cruelty (I cannot even describe it) rings put in their nose and jaw teeth broken or removed and food dreadful I must push this scene away for it's too cruel to fathom, the wildlife sanctuaries are trying to end this in the world I pray one day they will but I have another image in my head so magical of baby bears in the wild dancing while their mother sleeps nearby three bears in a circle tapping their little feet in time joyfully they dance innocent of the cruel world waiting . . . _________________________ March 19, 2019 Poetry/Free Verse/Dancing Bears Copyright Protected, ID-19-1126-082-02 All Rights Reserved. So true Dear Heart, great poem! I remember as a child in Appalachia a guy had a bear cub with an Indian bonnet on it. For a quarter you could feed it a bottle of milk. I remember the chain and the misery of the bear working for food. It was a wonder it did not bite my face off.

Timothy, thanks for visiting and your compassion for the bears, the bear probably did not bite you because its teeth had been removed, how sad and horrible is that! How pathetic that a wild creature is made to do such a thing for money, it makes me sick and angry !

This is darling, a tribute to keeping the wild where they belong, in the wild, with their mothers. Reminds me of the cruelty and unthinkingness of man.

Caren, the cruelty of mankind never fails to amaze me, wild creatures belong in the wild, sadly many of these saved bears can never be released to the wild, as they usually have no teeth or have other handicaps that prevent it, so they will live out their lives in sanctuary reserves, safe and cared for at least. God bless these people !

Anne Lise, yes the plight of the dancing bears is heartbreaking and thankfully governments are making it a crime now, but there is still much of it going on, thanks for visiting !
