Dakota Contest I was alone until I brought you home, Just a pup who loved to chew on my shoes. You've given me the sweetest love I've known. Blue husky eyes keep vigil when I snooze, Your gay devotion keeps me from the blues. The years have passed too quickly, now you're old. Right by my side you've stayed until the end. Your worth in weight, much more than solid gold, I could not let you suffer, my best friend. Only time will help my broken heart mend. 8-22-19 English Quintain Deadline: Friday, August 23, 2019 29 poems of the maximum 35

Dear Connie. This is a sweet poem. I have not gotten a new dog since I lost my last one because of my age , I am afraid I would out live them. I found my poem in the contest. Hope you like. Love, Joyce

A simple, but most expressive and touching poem. May you treasure the memory of your dear friend, and the sadness pass, Connie.

I feel that way too Mike. Dakota was a therapy dog and brought much joy to my daughter and to many of her patients (she is a nurse). Thank you for your most wonderful comment and Fave. I appreciate it very much. xxoo

I see Dakota was your daughter's dog for fifteen years. That's a good, long life, though it seems we always lose our pets too early. It's an adorable poem, Hon. Best wishes in the quintain contest! Hugs, carolyn

This is about my daughter's dog Rick, and though the picture is not of her dog she looked very much like this one I got from the Internet. She was a wonderful angel who looked out for my daughter. I miss her too. Thank you very much. xxoo

Beautiful write Connie , and I understand your grief as we too had to let our spaniel go, they are part of your family and you do miss them. But it's the kindest thing to do and it's not until much later that you realise that. Tom

Wow, that began so happy and ended with such sadness. Being a dog person I understand. I have lost many in my life and each one broke my heart when they passed. Really nice Connie but such a sad theme. Best wishes in the contest

The poem is about my daughter's dog Dakota who lived 15 years which is very long for the husky breed. Thank you Chris. I wish our domesticated animals lived longer.xxoo

Ah, so beautifully done. A tribute to a wonderful, wonderful friend! There is nothing like a puppy who turns into an old dog. Letting them suffer is not okay, so I am proud of you but I understand your broken heart.

I loved that dog so much. She was my daughter's dog and her constant companion for years. My daughter is a nurse and was working at a convalescent hospital at the time. Dakota was a therapy dog and she used to go visit the patients who loved dogs. My daughter was broken hearted when she died of old age. Thank you Caren. xxoo
