Curtain Call

I flee from the reality of self In blind attempt at being self-less Confronting an enlightened self-interest. I have stepped into the shadows Allowed them the spotlights curse of cheers and boos of curtain calls. Suppress the urge to take the stage Permit them praise, and failures fury Deny them not their bloodied glory. I do it not for them but self To touch the hem of passing whim In closing act of one-night stand. John G. Lawless ©3/30/3023

So, you're letting go of ego--am I reading it right? If so, a brave move! Best of luck. If it works, show us how. I enjoyed your poem very much.

Wrestling with this one but that's why I like it, good lines taking you to a place that you know you've been but can't quite name. Enjoy poems that suggest meaning without spelling it out.I'll spend some more time in this poem John, worth it.

And now we get to read it. I honestly felt like a cat chasing it's tail, John. Had to dive in a couple of times and swim around. Very clever.
